For our first hike since arriving back in Las Palmas, we chose a shortish (6 km) walk from Vega de San Mateo to Valsequillo. Caught the 10.00hrs 303 bus from the Telmo bus station in Las Palmas to San Mateo and started the hike at 10.45hrs
A description of the hike can be found at the link :-
After leaving the town of San Mateo the path took us past blossoming Almond trees
and along the crest of a ridge
Tucked into the hillsides are several dwellings which are basically caves with manmade stone fronts
Further along the ridge
Picnic lunch with a view
more Almond trees
Just before the descent to Valsequillo, we visited the view point of El Helechal, complete with abandoned restuarant
Good view of Valsequillo just below the viewpoint
At 13.45hrs arrived in Valsequillo, our destination, having enjoyed a gentle start to hiking.
One of the many Bronze statues which grace towns on Gran Canaria
Some wonderful Laurel trees in front of the church
