On the afternoon of 3 August, Duart and his son Duart invited us to come for a sail on his fast racing S/V Allegro Vivace which has been moored alongside us for a day or so.
Going for a sail for an hour or so is a very novel experience for us - normally it is quite an excercise converting Dutch Link from marina/anchor mode to sailing so we never think of just "going for a sail"
Had a very enjoyable time in very variable winds - gusting maybe 20 jknots in parts of the bay to almost calm further offshore.
7 yearold Duart junior is quite a sailor already having just won a recent Optimist regatta and is quite a tactician, telling his father when to tack etc.
Compared to Dutch Link, Allegro Vivace is very light and accelerates very quickly - a joy to sail.
You may wonder why she carries the Dutch Flag - the regulations for Portuguese boats are so punitive that more owners are registering in different countries.
