At 2000 hrs the 8 sailing yachts of the Rally Arquipelagos left Ponta Delgada on Sao Miguel for the 546 nmile trip to Porto Santo close to Madeira.

S/V Oasis
The wind was a pleasant SW 3 to 4 enabling us to reach in smooth seas at around 5 kts SOG.
S/V Acor
However the wind gradually became more and more fickle as predicted on the Grib files and we ended up motoring 68 hours of the 93 hour trip.
S/V Trilemus
However, on the positive side, the seas were very calm the whole trip and we read books and watched DVD movies on our watches.
SV Desafinado
The AIS once again proved invaluable, alerting us to several ships passing close to our track.
Several pods of dolphins played in front of our bow.
First sight of Porto Santo
At 1630 hours 13 July we safely moored in the marina of Porto Santo, helped by the friendly marina staff.
