Hike Gran Canaria 4 March 2012 Pinos de Galdar to Guia

Caught the 0815hrs 220 bus  from Las Palmas to Pinos de Galdar in the central mountains of Gran Canaria. As the bus wound its way up the hairpin bends, the skies cleared with the promise of a glorious day .
By 1000hrs we arrived at the start of our 15 km hike at the Pinos de Galdar view point with wonderful views towards the northern coast.
(The hike is nr 5 in the Sunflower Gran Canaria walking guidebook)
The first 20 minutes was a steep descent done a loose gravelly path through a pine forest
With views of Tenerife's Mount Teide some 60 miles away
After 30 minutes sign posts reassured us that we were on the right route
from here the path led us along a ridge

Mount Teide is still visible in the distance

The village of Hoya de Pineda huddled against the steep sides of Montana de Guia
The town of Galdar is just visible at the foot of the conical hill in the distance
Looking back up the Barranco
The many Canarian style greenhouses housing banana trees amongst other crops in the area close to Galdar
We arrived in Guia, close to Galdar around 16.30 hrs just in time to catch a 103 bus which was about to leave , to take us  back to Las Palmas, tired, but happy.
