Easter Las Palmas 2012

Easter week is celebrated very intensively in Gran Canaria with several processions organised by the Roman Catholic Church. Below are photos of one of the Good Friday Processions starting and ending at the Santa Anna Cathedral in Las Palmas. The procession started with the statues of Mary and the crucified Jesus Christ exiting the cathedral

 Afterwards, we decided to cycle further along the water front past the fishing village of Cristobal

 past Cristobal's small fishing harbour

 and the adjacent sheltered beach

to our objective, the new statue of a godlike figure blowing a conch shell

 which we pass everytime we drive to the airport
